Coeburn did made it to regions but got knocked out by Castlewood in the first round.

If I was putting together a team I'd take the first and second 5 of George Wythe over Adkins. Do you really believe he's a better basketball player than Tihlee, Hackney, or Fisher? Adkins is a good spot shooter (Salyers from Gate City was better) who plays very little defense on a team that didn't even make it to regions. </div></div>

That's your opinion.

However, your opinion differs from the guys who make the all-state selections, so deal with it.

Don't waste your breath--I've never seen this cat let facts or lack of knowledge of them keep him from shouting his mantra from the mountaintop that he's right and everyone else is wrong.

It's also my opinion that a lot of the AA supporters on this board are mostly Coeburn alumns. It seems as if a first team all state player could lead his team out of the first round of regions or at least get within 15 points of Castlewood in the three times that they played.
The test is simple, if "your" team wins a national championship, do you get a championship ring? If the answer is yes, then you can say "we." If not, you can't.

Thank you Captain Obvious. Next thing you'll be telling us is that most Evan Vanover supporters on this board are Clintwood alums, most Pinkston Bros. supporters are PV alums...etc.

Besides--neutral88, Borat, MikeJones, and cvcgrad (I think) aren't Coeburn alums, and they feel he deserved the honor. But you go on making an excuse of that nature if it makes you feel better.

See, now you're just trying to be rude & hurtful.

Plus--before he tore an ACL in the 3rd quarter, Coeburn was within 8 of Castlewood at their place in regions, and according to a lot of accounts, Castlewood was on their heels and Adkins was playing very well and was giving Castlewood reason to be concerned.

I would have thought a player the caliber of Dominique Wilkins would have made it to an NBA finals in his career also--but that doesn't mean Nique automatically sucked. Sometimes you're a great player on a not-so-great team...what's so hard to grasp about that? And no...I'm not comparing Adkins to Nique--simply their situations.

Re: 4 local boys named all-state in b-ball

Deffinately not form Coeburn...hahah

My great grandmother was though...

AA deserves his props on shooting alone, other than that he is an average player, but he deserved it on his shooting, which put him over the top...

You gotta remember, this isn't an all time team, this is just last season...Hackney is/was primarily a shooter, wasn't even close in points scored to AA...Anderson, same boat...Fisher, hasn't been the same since he hurt his knee....You gotta remember GC's coach kills his players when it comes to awards like this, they simply don't play enough to put up the numbers, this also may hint to the reason their cross county rival pumps out several more college players on the average as well...

All in all, is AA a Talford or Silver???? No
Is he a Hood or Dock??? probably not
Is he in the top 5 in a mediocre year of 2007??? Yes, easily
Need A Penny? Take A Penny...Need 2 Pennies? Get A Job!!!

Adkins is a lot better shooter than Salyers. I've seen them both play enough to know that. Salyers is a streak shooter.

Remember that this all state team is made up of sports writers. Not everyone sees these guys. How can you have a true all state team based on stats alone. What should count is how did the guy do against the top teams in the area or at the state level. If you base it on that, then Anderson should definately be on it. He doesn't play much defense though.

Not to take anything away from him, I think he definitely deserved it too, but that maxpreps list that was posted before is just a partial list, only those whose teams entered their stats. I think Hill, Rhoades, and Brown are a few right off that would be ahead but weren't on there. I'm sure he's still well up there though either way.

A good bet that he led the area in scoring though, with probably Lee's Stafford (22.9) and then Vanover next.

So does this solidify the AA>EV argument that was on here a few months ago? I kid.

AA deserved it, plain and simple. A very good bb player and a better person to boot. Congrats to him and all the finalists.

Re: 4 local boys named all-state in b-ball

Salyers put up some excellent numbers this year to be considered a streaky shooter. To each his own and you guys bring up some good arguments in support of Adkins but I will respectfully disagree. Someone mentioned putting Adkins on a top 5 list in a mediocre 2007. For SWVA my list would be:
1. Tennis Simon
2. Tihlee Anderson
3. Jamie Hackney
4. Patrick Fisher
5. Stafford (Lee)/Ethan Mills
The test is simple, if "your" team wins a national championship, do you get a championship ring? If the answer is yes, then you can say "we." If not, you can't.
